Maurice Sendak: 1928 - 2012

Where The Wild Things Are was one of my favorite books as a child, and just a few weeks ago I reverently shared it with the boys.
(While watching a tribute to Mr. Sendak online, Hawthorne said: "There's Max!)

A few days after Mr. Sendak's passing, Hawthorne requested "the book with the boy on it"...
...and we read through all of Chicken Soup With Rice.
(a personal favorite of mine that I was introduced to when I was a student teacher)

I remember back when Lisa and I attended the Pacific Northwest Ballet's Nutcracker, and how those sets designed by Mr. Sendak brought his illustrations as close to life as possible for me.

His work has been a constant presence in my life.

Thank you, Mr. Sendak.
