Winter Lettuce

A few weeks ago it was sunny and mild enough to pop the top on the cold frame, water the lettuce, do some weeding, and refill our humble beer trap to combat those ever-persistant slugs.

My own salad bar just steps away from the back door.

I am also experimenting with overwintering carrots in the cold frame.

Behold, the time has come for the refreshening of the beer-slug-trap contents.  (Model used for picture taking demonstration only. Does not actually consume beer. Yet.)

Slugs are attracted to the open-bar policy, where everybody knows your name.  

The chard is faring well thus far.
